Budget Wars Target the Weak

Let the blame game begin!

City budgets are due June 30, which means that NY politicians have to spend the next couple of weeks convincing the public whose at fault for the cuts they are about to make.

Yesterday, I decided to pay a visit to the old Emigrant Savings Bank in Lower Manhattan for City Council’s budget hearing for Aging and the Subcommittee for Senior Centers. I thought I was entering a chamber meeting; what it really felt like was a scene straight out of “…And Justice for all.”As Councilman Vincent Gentile viciously scolded Aging Commissioner Lilliam Barrios-Paoli for her proposed cuts, I was waiting for Al Pacino to bust into the Chamber and start his infamous rant.
