Bed-Stuy program more than summer school

As published in the Brooklyn Downtown Star

Amidst the stifling temperatures and oppressive humidity, 15 young Brooklynites have opted to pass up ever-so-tempting trips to the pool in favor of a dive into books.

But this isn’t your typical summer school.

Located in the heart of Bedford-Stuyvesant, the Academy of Business and Community Development (ABCD) charter school runs a unique five-week summer program for inner city youth.

The program is different from the average summer school experience; in addition to basic math and literacy tutoring, participants are mentored by New York University (NYU) students through the Liberty Partnership Program (LPP), and also get to go on weekly trips.
